A fully adjustable range of self-closing safety gates for use in rooftop or industrial environments. Safety gates are ideal for protecting any openings, ladder/stair access points, roof hatches, walkways, access to industrial machinery and other restricted areas, where regular access for maintenance and inspection is required. Our gates are spring loaded so will automatically close behind the user.
Spring loaded safety gates are considered the preferred solution to chains, bars or sliding tubes when protecting these areas as they automatically close behind a person, overcoming the problem of human error. The safety gate can be “retro-fitted” to existing fixed structures where opening protection is required.
We designed and tested our self-closing gates to meet the relevant standards to help keep our customers safe.
Testing & Certification
Kee Safety’s self-closing spring loaded safety gates have been extensively tested by independent bodies, to make sure that our products are reliable and comply with international standards.
KEE GATE safety gates are CE accredited to the requirements of EN 1090 and comply with Work at Height Regulations, EN14122-3:2016 and test requirements of EN13374.
The safety gates passed salt spray testing to ASTM B117 - 11 - 55 Neutral solution over 200 hours to assess performance of coating to resist corrosion. Our gates were also abuse tested and the mechanism tested to over 50,000 open/close cycles. All test reports are available upon request.
Do You Know The Requirements To Conform?
EN 14122 standard was revised in 2016 which had an impact on the design requirements of industrial safety gates. This revision stipulated that the distance between the bottom rail and the flooring must be less than 500mm. There are two ways to achieve this: use a full height gate, which fills that void or use our KEE GATE safety gate, which features a larger D bend to meet these requirements.
The gates supplied to meet the older EN 14122 standard should ideally be replaced or upgraded to meet these requirements. The drawing above shows dimensions of our KEE GATE safety gate.
Permanently fixed ladders are often designed to meet either BS 4211 or EN 14122. BS 4211 calls for a full height gate to be installed at the top of each ladder, which should also feature toeboard, for this use our SGEUFHG products.
EN 14122 2016 requirements are as in the section above, but as often the rest of the guardrail features toeboard, it makes sense that the gate should also feature toeboard to protect persons and machinery below from foreign objects.

KEE GATE Options
Kee Safety’s self-closing safety gates have been designed to be fully adjustable and can accommodate an opening up to 1m wide for the single gate and 2 x 0.9m for the double gate.
The single gate is available 1m wide and it can be easily cut to size on site.
The double gate is available 2 x 0.9m wide and it can be easily cut to size on site.
The full height gates for ladders are 1m wide and 1.1m high, and include an aluminium toe board
All safety gates are available in galvanised steel finish or yellow powder coated.
KEE GATE product range also includes pallet width gates which allow safe working for employees on a mezzanine or raised working surface.
Single Width Gates
The single self closing safety gate is supplied 1 metre wide and is fully adjustable; width can be cut to size on-site. Connecting the gate to the supporting structure is simple - two U-Bolts are used to attach the gate to a variety of uprights or flat surfaces from 33.7 to 48.3mm diameter. The Single Self Closing Safety Gate is compliant to EN 14122-3 : 2016 standard.
Double self closing safety gates are supplied for larger openings greater than 1m wide. The maximum width for double gates is 1.8m. The double gate is compliant to EN 14122-3 : 2016 requirements and does not require any locking mechanism to be used by the operator.
Double safety gates are both self-closing and will form a complaint barrier when a person has passed through the gate. This is achieved by strengthening the attachment and increasing the number of fixings when compare to the single gate option.
The double self-closing safety gate has undergone the same testing regime as the single gate and is available in both galvanised and powder coated options.
Full Height Gates
KEE GATE Full Height Self Closing Safety Gate has been designed to comply with BS 4211: Specification for Permanently Fixed Ladders, which requires gates on ladders to offer the same level of protection as EN 14122 compliant guardrail. Standing at 1100mm tall and featuring an aluminium toe board, it provides additional protection to those working at any level. The gate is fully adjustable and can accommodate openings up to 1m.

KEEGUARD free standing roof edge protection and KEE GATE self-closing safety gates have been installed at ArcelorMittal Auto Processing Deutschland GmbH plant in Germany. ArcelorMittal is a multinational steel manufacturing corporation and the world's largest steel producer.
ArcelorMittal wanted to secure a roof with a Collective Fall Protection Solution, to provide safe access for a team maintaining skylights. The roof is access by workers maintaining skylights only. The maintenance team uses a special platform to secure themselves when maintaining rooflights, so no skylight protection was required. The team builds a platform, attach the PPE and moves it from skylight to skylight.
930m of the KEEGUARD system and 6 self-closing gates were installed, the installation took 4 days.
If a property is one where regular access to the roof is a necessity, collective fall protection systems such as roof top guardrails, should be installed. Collective measures are preferred as they prevent several people from falling at the same time and do not require specific user knowledge, which means training and supervision is not essential.
